Temporary Elevators
Metro Elevator rents and sells elevators for either temporary or permanent applications. We maintain a large construction buck hoist rental fleet which includes various types of equipment ready for delivery and installation anywhere across the United States and Canada. We have also performed permanent installations in countries worldwide. Our facility is centrally located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
About Our Temporary Elevators
Our Temporary Elevators may also be referred to as Construction Hoists, Personnel and Material Hoists, Man-Lifts, Temporary Elevators, Material Lifts, Rack & Pinion Hoists, etc. but they all serve the same purpose: transporting men and materials vertically in a safe and speedy manner.
Our Temporary Elevators can be temporarily installed for:
- Commercial Buildings
- Industrial Facilities
- Power Plants
- Oil Refineries
- Coal Mines
We can supply temporary elevators for two types of applications:
- Personnel and Material – designed to carry up to 8,000 lbs. of workers, materials, and equipment
- Material-Only – capacities of up 6,000 lbs. (note: these are not designed to safely transport personnel)
The temporary elevators we typically lease have either single or twin cars which move vertically along tower sections for structures of any height. The tower sections are attached via a standard or specially designed tie-in spaced apart about every 25 to 30 feet. The cars for twin temporary elevators operate independently using one tower. We often recommended leasing a twin buck hoist if the building or structure happens to have more ten landings or will be used quite frequently. By using a twin buck hoist, you will reduce the wait time for the buck hoist car thereby improving productivity.
Our temporary elevators rentals use a motor, brake and gear box with a rack-and-pinion system that climbs the mast sections at various speeds. Lifting speeds vary depending on the buck hoist’s manufacturer. For the tallest of structures, we offer temporary elevators that can travel up to 300 feet per minute. For material-only temporary elevators, we offer models that can travel up to 150 ft. per minute.
Depending on the model, you can lease a buck hoist equipped with variable frequency drives (VFD). VFD temporary elevators provide a much smoother ride and greatly reduce the chance for mechanical breakdown due to wear and tear on working parts. With a VFD buck hoist, there will be no need for the operator to “jog” the buck hoist up and down for any upper landing. VFD’s have exceptional leveling accuracy as compared to models not equipped.
Our temporary elevators require a trained hoist operator in most situations unless the hoist is installed with automatic controls. If Metro operators are used, they contact Metro directly for any major maintenance issues. For minor issues and scheduled maintenance, our operators will take care of the issues themselves so they can keep hoist running in optimal condition (without the need for a service technician).
Metro is a full service buck hoist company providing turn-key solutions for erection, dismantle, repair and maintenance for all manufacturers including Champion®, Alimak®, Bocker®, Pega®, Patent®, Strohs®, and Avro®.
