Metro Elevator is now leasing, upon customer request, our customized Pink Elevators to raise awareness for breast cancer research in support of Susan G Komen®, the worlds foremost breast cancer research and educational organization. Our first “Ride The Pink Elevator” partner is Clayco, Inc. (a full service building solutions provider), and their project in Ann Arbor, Michigan known as 618 South Main Street, just off of the edge of the campus of University of Michigan. The world’s first pink construction elevator is being commissioned by Metro and Clayco, along with participating project sub-contractors to raise funds and awareness on behalf of Susan G. Komen®.
Nancy Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything within her power to end breast cancer forever. As of result, the Susan G Komen® organization was founded in 1982.
As of today, Susan G Komen, has invested more than $2.5 billion dollars to help fulfill Nancy’s promise to Susan. Investments include ground-breaking research, community health outreach, advocacy, as well as similar programs throughout the world in more than 30 countries. to promote breast cancer awareness.
Since it’s founding, Komen has played a major role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer. They have transformed how the world talks about it. Komen has helped turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. They are proud of their contribution and that’s why Metro Elevator is now supporting such an important cause. Komen has advocated for more early detection and treatment. Today, about 70 percent of women 40 and older receive regular mammograms. Since 1990, early detection and effective treatment have resulted in a 34 percent decline in breast cancer mortality in the U.S. In 1980 the survival rate with early detection criteria was about 74 percent, now it is 99 percent. The federal government now devotes more than $850 million each year to breast cancer research, treatment and prevention as compared to $30 million in 1982. Currently, breast cancer survivors represent the largest group of all cancer survivors in the U.S.
