Man-Lifts

Metro Elevator rents and sells Man-Lifts for both temporary and permanent. We maintain a large Man-Lift rental fleet which includes various types of equipment ready for immediate delivery and installation anywhere across the United States and Canada. We have also performed permanent installations in countries worldwide. Our facility is centrally located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

About Our Man-Lifts

Our Man-Lifts may also be referred to as Temporary Elevators, Material Lifts, Rack & Pinion Hoists, Buck Hoists, Personnel Hoists, Material Lifts, Construction Elevators, Construction Hoists,  etc. but they all serve the same purpose: transporting men and materials vertically in a safe and speedy manner.

Our Man-Lifts can be temporarily installed for:

  • Turnarounds for Oil Refineries
    Scheduled Outages for Power Plants
Underground and Above Ground Mining Applications
Construction or Renovation of High-Rise Lo-Rise buildings

Many other industries use Rack and Pinion man-lifts for permanent operations where their main purpose is to move men, equipment and materials quickly between landings.

We can supply man-Lifts for three types of applications:

  • Material-Only – capacities to lift and lower up to 6,000 lbs. of materials or equipment, these are not designed to safely transport personnel
  • Men and Material – designed to carry up to 8,000 lbs. and large materials like drywall and lumber or a maximum of 40 workers
  • Special Purpose – typically designed for a maximum capacity of three to six workers with their tools and equipment

man-lifts with Twin CarThe man-Lifts we typically rent can have either single or twin cages which move vertically along mast tower sections for even the tallest structures. The mast sections are attached to the structure or building every 25 to 30 feet via a standard or specially designed tie-in. The cars for twin elevators can operate independently while using the same mast sections. This eliminates or reduces wait times for the elevators while moving men and materials and improving productivity.

Our construction elevator rentals use a motor, brake and gear box with a rack-and-pinion system that climbs the mast sections at various speeds. Lifting speeds vary depending on the make and model of the elevator. For sky scrapers, we offer elevators that can travel up to 300 feet per minute.

Many of our construction elevator rentals are equipped with variable frequency drives (VFD). VFD elevators provide a much smoother ride and greatly reduce the chance for mechanical breakdown due to wear and tear on working parts. VFD’s also eliminate the need to “jog” hoist up and down because of their exceptional leveling accuracy.

Our man-Lifts require a trained elevator operator in most situations unless the elevator is installed with automatic controls. When you hire Metro operators they contact Metro directly if maintenance issues should arise. Our operators are trained to get the elevator working as quickly as possible when minor problems occur without the need to call in a repair technician.

Metro is a full service construction elevator company which will provide turn-key solutions for erection, dismantle, repair and service for all makes and models including Champion®, Alimak®, Bocker®, Pega®, Patent®, Strohs®, and Avro®.
